چکیده

Abstract Background Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) remains a serious cause of infections in the United States and worldwide. Methicillin susceptible S. (MSSA) is half all health care–associated staphylococcal infections, Resistant (MRSA) leading community onset skin soft tissue US. This study looks at 15-year trend (CO)-MRSA MSSA determines ‘best’ to ‘worst’ infection trends. We identified distinct groups CO-MRSA rate trajectories by grouping census tracts 20 county Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) between 2002 2016 with similar temporal trajectories. Methods retrospective from 2002-2016, using electronic records children living Atlanta, Georgia relevant US data (at tract level). A group based trajectory model was applied generate (low, high, very high) were mapped ArcGIS. Results Three CO-MSSA two detected among 909 counties. found ~74% S.aureus occurrence during this time period belonged low for both MRSA MSSA, higher proportion occurring less densely populated Census DeKalb County, one Atlanta’s most areas, had highest worst patterns (CO-MRSA high or high). Trends Community-Onset Infection Rates Based on Group-based Trajectory Models Spatial Between Conclusion patterns, stratified antibiotic resistance over geographic areas time, identify communities risks compared infection. Further investigation determinants groupings outliers may be way target prevention strategies aimed prevent infections. Disclosures All Authors: No reported disclosures

Invasive methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections in the United States.

CONTEXT As the epidemiology of infections with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) changes, accurate information on the scope and magnitude of MRSA infections in the US population is needed. OBJECTIVES To describe the incidence and distribution of invasive MRSA disease in 9 US communities and to estimate the burden of invasive MRSA infections in the United States in 2005. DES...

Staphylococcus aureus Infections in Children: The Implications of Changing Trends.

In this issue of Pediatrics, Sutter et al1 report the antibiotic susceptibility trends of Staphylococcus aureus isolates recovered from >39 000 children who received care at sites within the US military health system from 2005 through 2014. S aureus is the most common pathogen causing skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) as well as some invasive infections such as osteomyelitis and septic ar...

Staphylococcus aureus resistant to vancomycin--United States, 2002.

Staphylococcus aureus is a cause of hospital- and community-acquired infections. In 1996, the first clinical isolate of S. aureus with reduced susceptibility to vancomycin was reported from Japan. The vancomycin minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) result reported for this isolate was in the intermediate range (vancomycin MIC=8 microg/mL) using interpretive criteria defined by the National Co...

Nasal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant S aureus in the United States, 2001-2002.

PURPOSE Staphylococcus aureus is a common cause of invasive infections, yet most assessments of prevalence are based on health care-based samples. We computed population-based estimates of nasal carriage of S aureus and risk factors for carriage, as well as population-based estimates of nasal carriage of methicillin-resistant S aureus (MRSA). METHODS We used the National Health and Nutrition ...

Community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections in children.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is now an established community pathogen in many areas of the United States as well as the world. Community-acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA) infections have changed several aspects of staphylococcal infections in children including the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, laboratory approach, antibiotic management, and prevention.
